tobacco resolution letter signed

This is one of our goals to achieve by SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) and Tobacco-Free Jacksonville Coalition when school returns. Stephen McCloskey and two SWAT youth attended a Jacksonville City Council subcommittee meeting on Monday, June 14, 2010. Councilwoman E. Denise Lee and Councilman Reginald L. Brown were very supportive of assisting us in gaining tougher restrictions on access to and use of tobacco products in Duval County. They asked if TFJC and SWAT would like to do a presentation at the next meeting. We accepted.

The City of Green Cove Springs unanimously passed a resolution limiting youth access to all forms of flavored tobacco and nicotine products. Congratulations to our SWAT students on their effort! This followed and outstanding Candidates Forum hosted by Tobacco Free Clay on Memorial Day.

Clay County SWAT students Kirby Keller (Orange Park HS and Miss Florida High School), Nikita Sorbello (OPHS and Miss Orange Park Outstanding Teen), Tyler Jump (OPHS), David Steinberg (Fleming Island HS) and Luke Steinberg (FIHS) on their presentation at the Memorial Day Candidates Forum sponsored by Tobacco Free Clay and moderated by First Coast News Morning Show host Erich Spivey. They did an outstanding job on educating candidates, decision makers and our community on the dangers of new candy flavored tobacco products. Questions regarding Tobacco issues were presented to 18 Federal, State and Local candidates at the Forum by Erich Spivey. Tobacco Free Clay was proud to be a sponsor of the 2010 RiverFest and the "You Decide 2010" Candidates Forum!

The week following the event, the City of Green Cove Springs unanimously passed a Resolution supporting the efforts of SWAT and Tobacco Free Clay.
